Born in 1985, Jonathan Budenz - better known as JOBUDENZ - is a french photographer, graphic designer and art director. He lives and works in Paris.
The heart of his work beats through the wealth of his influences, in love with an art that is an artistic blend or an evolving alchemy. Author of different and complex works, JOBUDENZ borrows the very essence of photography and outrageously tickles its current developments. His work, eye-catching and visually stunning, breaks the code of the single subject by increasing many elements within his compositions.
Curious, he looks intently all around him and turns into an eye. Taking a photograph immediately requires another one, a flow of images cross and intersect each other, stick together, or tear apart. The artist divides to better spread the digital pieces and breaks to better rebuild. Soaked with black and white, his aesthetic style collides through strong and frank contrasts where colors are looking for weapons to fight.
From this imaginary and visual awareness results a graphic chock which wavers between mass and space. An obscure delicacy distilled in a surreal strength and neo-sensual universe, where the human body is an obsession. The body - not the face - becomes his medium through its geometric shapes, its articulations and attachment points. Human being turns into transmutative pieces and motionless silhouettes, reflecting a modern and macabre anthropomorphism where human flesh blends with plastic and bones. Two fragments, two materials, no breath, no life.
Letters are also closely linked to photographs pieces. In his approach of the subject, image and typography come together in a research of pure elegance. Does he speak of a word when he’s working ? Or is it a word he’s drawing ? His random instinct only knows the answer. Neither figurative nor abstract, JOBUDENZ explores an alphabetical speech to expose his inner world and create chilling and evocative experience.
Anchored in the photographic field, the artist plays with its different faces to push its own boundaries as much as he can. An intimate cabal that he’s constantly building which reflects the sign inhabiting the body.
